Kauri Cliffs Lodge SpaBeauty NZ

In Matauri Bay, Northland, on December 1, 2006 The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs opened the doors of its $1.7 million, 3,200 square foot, state-of-the-art Spa.

The complex boasts one of the most spectacular spas in New Zealand, if not the world.

Nestled in a native Totara forest and a short walk from the guest cottages, the spa is approached by three wooded paths which wind through the natural bush and converge at the entrance.

Upon entering the antique honed marble foyer, bordered by an exotic orchid and fern garden.

Three treatment rooms each open on to their own relaxing private courtyard with fireplace (for those cool evenings), overlooking a garden and meandering stream and set within a beautiful stand of native trees and ferns. Treatments may be taken indoors or “al fresco”.

For the ultimate indulgence the Signature Room, catering to couples, boasts its own Jacuzzi and chaise lounge built for two.

The spacious Jacuzzi is designed for treatments “a deux” which include mud, seaweed or rose petals baths, and looks out on a private fern garden.

Careful attention has been paid to every detail of the contemporary design and layout, including the soothing muted colours and rich textures which create a mood of total serenity.

Top of the line fixtures from exclusive purveyors such as Kohler (rain head showers) and Spazio Casa marble, round out the feeling of total luxury.

Internationally qualified therapists are employed to pamper guests.  Individual treatments or special quarter, half or full day packages consisting of massage, body treatments, facials, manicures, pedicures, reflexology, Vichy water treatments and personalized yoga sessions are offered.  The Spa complex contains a full gym and an 18 meters heated lap pool, his and hers locker rooms, a cedar sauna, indoor/outdoor spa pool and a state of the art wet room for Vichy and body treatments, and is only a stone’s throw away from two Astroturf tennis courts.

“Guests who stay with us expect the ultimate experience, which is why we are constantly re-evaluating what service and luxury mean in the 21st century”, says Jay Robertson, Managing Director of Kauri Cliffs, as well as sister properties The Farm at Cape Kidnappers and Matakauri Lodge.
“Our Spa exceeds the expectations of our most discerning guests.  Kauri Cliffs provide guests with the ultimate spa experience.”

Set on 6,500 acres of working farm, near Matauri Bay, Northland, on the North Island, the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs affords spectacular 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean, Cape Brett and the offshore Cavalli Islands are part of the panorama.

Kauri Cliffs is a member of Relais & Chateaux and has been providing its upscale guests the ultimate pampered experience since 2001.  Kauri Cliffs has won countless awards including being named the #1 Hotel in the World by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine in 2013.

Spa Supervisor, Nadege Jeantet, has worked in many luxury 5-star spas since she obtained her International Beauty Therapy Qualification in France seven years ago.

“I’m really passionate about this industry. I think we have the opportunity to meet lot of different people through our work and it’s always a pleasure to share experiences with them.

For me working in a spa is one of the best working environments and I am really lucky to have worked in many, and am still working in an amazingly beautiful spa.
I believe a spa experience has to transport you into a different world and it starts when you open the spa door. Here at the Spa at Kauri Cliffs we are really lucky as we are in the middle of a forest.

Every room has access to an exterior patio and our guests really like that as it’s pretty rare to find a spa like that!

During Summer we open all the windows and doors and it feels like you’re doing the treatment outside.
You can hear the birds and the music of nature. It’s really special.”

The Spa at Kauri Cliffs uses two skincare and body ranges: Evolu and Comfort Zone.

Nadgege explains “Evolu was chosen as it’s a New Zealand brand which is important as we have a lot of guests from overseas. It’s a botanical Skincare made with pure New Zealand water but also with extracts of several New Zealand’s widely-occurring native plants. It’s really important for us that our guests experience the beauty of New Zealand and that includes of course all the benefits from the beautiful products we use.

We also use Comfort Zone from Italy. We have custom-created our own body and facial treatments with the Comfort Zone range. All the products are developed and produced in a facility that uses 100% of its energy from renewable sources. They also have a reforestation project. Comfort Zone is a complete system of care for the skin, body, and soul. It fits in well with spa philosophy.”
