Breast cancer deaths have decreased due to earlier detection and breast cancer awareness.
This awareness is imperative, and all spa professionals need to be educated about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, so that the spa professional may recognized it could be breast cancer. That being said, it is not our role to suggest or diagnosis, but simply to make the client aware of changes in their skin. |

Today involves the increasing popularity of body modification, including partial or complete removal of body hair.
The methods used to remove body hair include shaving, clipping, waxing, epilation, depilatory creams, laser hair removal, electrolysis, sugaring and threading. Many of these methods cause trauma that can provide an entry point for infection. And yet, for someone diagnosed with cancer, hair removal typically takes a back step while treatment for cancer takes precedence. |

Although sometimes we think that there are too many rules and regulations,
and that we live in a risk-averse society, prescriptive health and safety rules over the manufacture of electrical and other potentially hazardous equipment used in the workplace are necessary to protect staff and clients/patients. The purpose of this article is to clarify the role of regulation and standards and considers the importance of education and guidelines used in aesthetic practice. |

When it comes to good skin care practices, most clients tend to stop at the neck,
subjecting the body to subpar ingredients found in mass-marketed lotions. Skin is the largest organ and is a reactive mechanism, so it makes sense that what we put into and on the body will most certainly impact its appearance. By treating the body with the same care, quality ingredients, and treatments as the face, is it possible to transform the skin to a more youthful, healthy state? |

Skin Care Dos and Don’ts for Chemotherapy Clients
Proper context is imperative when working with a client who is receiving chemotherapy for cancer. Skin care professionals are not treating cancer; they are working with the presenting conditions of a client and their skin. Presenting conditions can be caused by medical treatments for cancer, side effects from medications, or even nutritional status. |

Healthy Liver, Clear Skin
Skin care professionals are starting to understand that, in order to transform a client’s skin, they need to start looking inside the body. They understand that lifestyle choices greatly affect treatment of acne, rosacea, and melasma; however, they do not usually think of liver damage when treating the skin. |

In this changing world, where social concerns, environmental issues, political influences, family dynamics, and the power of media have the ability to distract people from their own well-being and, in some way, affect almost every decision people make, caring for personal health can become a challenge. |

How should I explain the importance of lash extension aftercare products to clients?
As a lash tech, I find that clients need constant educating to keep their extensions looking fabulous and clean. Over the years, I’ve found that most clients will use products such as extension mascaras or lash conditioners to make their lashes last a little longer. |

Good communication, honesty and the right aftercare advice will guarantee you meet your clients’ waxing needs.
By communicating with your client at the start and end of the treatment, this will prepare them as to how they can gain the desired waxing results. This will also show your professionalism, experience, knowledge as a therapist, and encourage them to trust your advice. |

How can I help clients change up their skincare regime for summer?
Summer can play havoc with clients’ skin. When exposed to the sun, skin heats up and this causes the pores to open, allowing any free radicals, dirt and grime to get in, as well as increasing sebum production. |
