5 Tips for Salon Success in 2016
Abraham Lincoln

2015 is done and dusted! Now it’s time to look ahead and start planning for 2016. We love heading into the New Year because it’s a great time to get motivated to start all those new and inspiring things you’ve had on your mind during the year. Check out the tips below to get your planning underway:
Reflect on what you carried out last year.
What did you do? What worked, what didn’t? Did you achieve your 2015 goals? Don’t leave these questions too late
Set SMART goals.
SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound. An example of a SMART goal could be to “improve my client rebooking rate from 52% in 2014 to 65% by December 2016.” If you don’t set SMART goals then it makes achieving and measuring goals a whole lot harder. Involve your team in a goal setting exercise; it’s a great way to get everyone onboard and motivated for the upcoming year. You can also organise one on one chats with each of your team to set professional goals and identify individual growth and development opportunities.
Set short-term and long-term goals.
Don’t overwhelm yourself by setting too many broad, long-term goals for 2016. While long-term goals are essential, it’s really important to have short-term goals as well. You can break your long-term goals into smaller, realistic checkpoints – that way you feel like you’re getting somewhere! Let’s look at the previous example but break it down and say that you want to increase your average client rebooking rate by 2% before April.
Map out your marketing for the year.
Check out this great marketing tool that you can use to map out your marketing over the year. It’ll help you avoid last minute marketing panic with quiet days or weeks. Last minute panic usually results in poorly thought-out promotions costing time and money for zero return.
Clean your database.
Don’t stop at creating great promotions, make sure you’re communicating to the right people. The New Year is the perfect opportunity to update all your client’s details. If you have trouble getting clients to complete the form, try incentives! Going in the draw for a basket full of goodies is a great incentive for clients to update their personal details. By having all your client information at your fingertips, you’ll ensure your marketing is properly targeted and delivered. Check out this blog post where we talk to Jacqui Victor of True Grit Hair Spa in Christchurch about the importance and power of having a strong client database.
Let’s make 2016 the best year at your salon or spa!
