Everyone Will Be Getting This Plastic Surgery Treatment in 2017
"Last year alone, we were injected more than 6.6 million times, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery," Allure reports. This number is almost 40% higher than what we saw five years ago. “The more you see this look—which is all over social media—the more accepted it becomes and the more people are OK with it,” Jessica Wu, a USC assistant clinical professor of dermatology, told Allure. It may have started with celebrities, but now, more and more everyday women are receiving injections to enhance their lips, thicken the skin under their eyes, and soften the look of fine lines.
But plastic surgeons agree that trends are shifting, and they predict a new set of procedures will become the norm in 2017. According to board-certified plastic surgeon Joseph A. Russo, MD, 2016 was the year the mainstream warmed up to injections, and next year, we will see a tendency toward treatments that offer longer-lasting results with less downtime.

1. Lip-smoothing injections
Kylie Jenner helped popularise the oversize lip in 2016, but Russo says that 2017 will be more focused on "improving the appearance of lips without focusing on plumping." The key here will be to create "subtle, natural-looking fullness," he says. Watch out for Volbella, a new type of filler that was specifically designed to produce this result. "It smooths the vertical lip lines and is currently the longest-lasting option for the lips on the market," says Russo.
2. Semi-permanent collagen
Russo predicts a rise in treatments like Bellafill, a new formulation of a collagen filler that over 80% of patients are still happy with five years later. This is compared to the one- or two-year average for most other fillers. "Due to its semi-permanency, it should only be performed by experienced injectors," Russo advises.
3. Injections for men
2017 will show "an increase of men looking for medical aesthetics and investing in simple medical-grade skincare products and regimens," Russo predicts. "I think we will see an increase in males being interested in Botox and overall, [there will be] more men in our appointment books in 2017."
