New Zealand Nail Artist - The First Kiwi to Place in Top 12 NAILs NTNA Competition
Several international competitors threw their hat into the ring this year for a shot at the most prestigious title in the nail industry. Nails magazine and CND judges have had the difficult task of choosing just 12 to represent the best of the best in the beauty business. This year’s finalists join the line up from Canada, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and Holland in addition to the U.S.
Already making her way through two tough pre challenges, Katey Laurenson is the FIRST Kiwi nail artist to represent NZ in a TOP 12 placing in this prestigious international nail art competition. Katey has been involved in the nail and beauty industry for over 13 plus years. Last year saw her compete in her first international nail competition, Nailympia Australia and came away with a 2nd place for her photographic entry themed steampunk. Currently located in Auckland's North Shore Embellished nails, when Keys not competing she strives to provide clients with exceptional and professional service that is second to none. Katey is continually keeping up with the most up to date services, nail art trends, training and knowledge available.
Beginning September, Katey and other contestants will complete weekly challenges to test their nail artistry skills. Weekly challenges will determine who moves on and who will be packing up their paintbrushes at the end of every week. The challenges will be a mix of video, photos, nail art on tips, and other social media-type entries. They are judged based off of their creativity and technical skills by public voting and judges' scores, determining who will stay in the competition for the following week.
This prestigious reality show-inspired contest will pit 12 contestants against one another in a battle for the title.
CND is serving as the title sponsor, with Jan Arnold, CND co-founder and style director, serving as a head judge for the competition. Alongside her, Danny Haile, Alicia Botero, Winnie Huang, and NAILS magazine staff round out the judging panel.
Starting later this summer, the Top 24 semi-finalists will face two pre-challenges that will eventually eliminate 12 of them from competition, and give us our Top 12 finalists for Season 4.
Pre-Challenges and Eliminations - Six contestants will be eliminated in each challenge. Judging is done solely by the Nails Magazine panel of judges.
Competition begins in September, and runs through January; ending in grand fashion at the exclusive Nails Magazine party at ISSE Long Beach. At this point, the public will be able to vote for their favourite set of nails that week online at Nails Magazine's Next Top Nail Artist 2016 page
The final three will be invited to a major trade show for the official crowning of NAILS’ Next Top Nail Artist. In addition, they'll receive a sizeable cash prize, enough nail art supplies to keep you creating for some time, and much more.
