Yesterday Dermalogica announced a strategic partnership with Unilever.
Since its inception almost 30 years ago, Dermalogica has remained committed to the professional skin care industry and to this day, is only sold in locations that employ a professional skin therapist. Jane and Raymond Wurward, the founders of Dermalogica, had an incredible vision when they first started the brand and have been unwavering in their mission to support the professional skin therapist, and empower women along the way.
Today Dermalogica is sold in over 80 countries and is used by over 100,000 skin therapists each day. It is these therapists and business owners who have helped to grow Dermalogica and make it the success story it is today… the number one professional skin care brand worldwide.
Jane Wurwand, Dermalogica founder and chief visionary, explains: “Thirty years ago, we launched Dermalogica with a clear and determined mission – to bring respect and success to the professional skin therapist. This mission is as important to us now as it was the first day we started the company. We are extremely proud of our Tribe and all that has been achieved in elevating the industry standard. Dermalogica will continue to work out of their global headquarters in Los Angeles, California and locally distribution will continue with Skin Health Experts (S.H.E) as it has done for over 20 years.

It is still business as usual for us in New Zealand.
While Dermalogica now falls under the ‘Prestige Division’ of Unilever there will be no changes at a local level on how or where the brand is sold.”

When we started The International Dermal Institute, and then Dermalogica, we had a singular focus - to define and bring respect to the professional skin therapist through excellent education, innovative products and outstanding customer service. We were so fortunate in those days to have our "early adopters" join the tribe, and are equally blessed today to have the most of them still in our ranks. The past three decades have seen real change in the "beauty industry" - much of which we have driven, together. Dermalogica is now the world's leading salon professional skin care brand, used by more than 100,000 professional skin therapists in 86 countries. Working together, we have also seen the FITE program help more than 63,000 women start or grow a business, as well as provide scholarships for girls around the world to attend school. Next year, the brand will be celebrating another great milestone - our 30th anniversary. In short, it is an exciting time for Dermalogica, and our tribe worldwide.
We are writing to you today to announce another exciting milestone - a partnership with Unilever, one of the most respected names in global personal care. Unilever is placing enormous emphasis on developing their business in prestige skin care, and we are joining forces to become the category leaders in this space.
Dermalogica will become the newest addition to the Unilever Prestige Division, and will be the cornerstone in Unilever's prestige strategy going forward. Our combined strengths will mean even more of the product innovation, education excellence and social impact that you have come to expect from Dermalogica, and we feel strongly that this partnership will further elevate not only the brand that we love, but the whole profession.
As part of the Unilever Prestige Division, Dermalogica will continue to operate out of our global headquarters in Los Angeles, California; and you will continue to work with the same members of our education, sales, customer service, operations and marketing teams you do now.
We will both continue in our leadership roles, working in partnership with Unilever to help shape and guide this bold new initiative and ensure your continued success.
