The First Salon Owner MeetUP - Was it a Success?

Salon Owners MeetUP SpaBeauty Reports on the first event held in Auckland

Salon Owner MeetUP, the brainchild of Salon business coach Malcolm Gibbons from Shock Consult, (the salon coaching company) formed after having a discussion with Steve Arthur GM, House of Camille - together deciding this is definitely what the hair & beauty industry needs. “I’ve listened to salon owners for ages lament the fact that they don’t often get the opportunity to talk to other salon owners and as such I created Salon Owner MeetUP to solve that problem”.

New Zealand's first MeetUP event

It was on an overcast, rather cold evening on Auckland’s North Shore that a group of motivated and enthusiastic salon owners merged together at Paper Moon for the inaugural Salon Owner MeetUP.

These salon owners recognised the specialness of getting together and chatting about the trials and tribulations of salon ownership and the prizes and pitfalls of entrepreneurism. Amongst the warming glow of $10 cocktails the discussion bounced around salon hours, salon promotions, around those damn clients that annoy us and what do YOU do about them… and of course the obligatory discussion about staffing issues etc… The conversation flowed with each participant recounting the great things about salon ownership and the not so great, underpinning it all was a feeling of comradery and ‘we’re all in this together’.

What Salon Owners said had to say about the MeetUP

“Great night, great meeting new people and catching up with people I knew, nice and relaxed, how us hairdressers like it”. Emma

“Fabulous great bunch of ladies and men! Had so much fun and will love to do this again”. Carolyn

“Very enjoyable to meet like-minded people.Thank you very much”. Michelle

New friendships were formed, old friendships were rekindled and many business relationships developed and strengthened. As a sponsor, Steve Arthur of House of Camille surprised everyone with an awesome gift just before we all departed which was appreciated and well received.

Thus the evening was viewed as a tremendous success by all who attended and the promise of we’ll be here next month crossed everyone’s lips as they were leaving. Salon Owner MeetUP all in all was a tremendous success and Malcolm says it will only get better and better as more people know about it and attend. The plan is to roll this concept out throughout New Zealand in the coming months.
If you’re a Salon Owner who would love to attend in your area please contact Katrina Walker, Shock Consult’s Business Manager on 022 011 0560 or email, to register your interest and put your area on our radar - perhaps it’ll be in your town next.

Katrina also say’s “We’re looking for motivated salon owners to be the leaders of MeetUP and to be working with us to organise and facilitate Salon Owner MeetUP in their area. Interested people should contact me for information”. So if you’d like Salon Owner MeetUP to be in your town soon, make contact now to see when where and how we can do that.

The next Auckland Salon Owner MeetUp is on Wednesday, 20th May.
